PCPNDT Act: Contribution
Was consulted by the Maharashtra government at the time in 1988 to develop the rules for the PCPNDT Act registration of genetic clinics. Later, served as a member of the state-level committee. The act's Implementation has regulated prenatal diagnostic services, lowered the number of female feticides and enforcing ethical behaviour.
Educating the Masses

Along with television interviews on channels like Doordarshan - Sahyadri and ABP Majha, digital interviews by Granthali Prakashan and on world birth defects day - 2022 by Meyer Vitabiotics and on womens day 2023 by ET Health world and articles in newspapers and Diwali issues,

  • Wrote 4 books for laypeople
  • Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and Shree Sthanak Puraskar 2020 were awarded to Marathi book "Vansh Anuvansh."
  • The first edition of "Shoots & Roots" was completely sold out before it was even released at the Board of Genetic Counseling India's 2021 international conference
  • Involvement in guiding members of NGOs Vconnect, CAHO, and Spina Bifida Foundation that fight for particular genetic disorders
  • Guided law enforcement officials regarding DNA fingerprinting and its usage.
  • Sensitised Anganwadi workers to pick-up high-risk cases in the rural area.
Rural Services
As 60% of our population lives in villages Dr. Hema opened the first pro bono rural genetic counselling centre in Mutat, Sindhudurg and with her team of Center and team for Genetic Healthcare participated in five Birth Defects and infertility camps in rural as well as 2 tier cities in Maharashtra along with district civil surgeons and local medical fraternity.
